one of the reasons.....

What a good feeling to be greeted by this lovely bloom when I arrived to work this am.  Front door unlocked (check), rugs on the front line (check), front porch display (check), light bulb change (check), south room ...wait a minute!  turn the lights on and take in this apple blossom 42cm Amaryllis from our friend Dolf. Dolf calls us every July to review our successes, talk over new varieties and guarantee a bright winter with indoor blooms.
This year Dolf held true to form and we are pleased we invested in the larger bulbs.  5 blooms on this plant now, with 3-4 more stalks on the horizon.  2+ months of enjoyment with this bulb now, and with care, more years to come!

What better gift for the holidays?

but wait...this morning I enjoyed my latest purchase from our friends at Middle Kingdom.
This cachepot is the perfect container for many things including kitchen utensils.
Designed by Bo Jia and fired in MK's own kiln, this porcelain piece is a great marriage of form and function.
$38 for a household item fit for traditional to contemporary lifestyles.  More colors available.
Thank you Allison and Bo we love your beautiful collection!

Wish list ....

With each year we enjoy the season more and more!
How we prepare for our celebrations change as do our families.  Santa has a different ring this year and while we may miss some of last year's festivities, we have new activities to see and enjoy!

The wish list is always present!
At Mulberry & Lime we have now posted in the main hall.
All are welcome to post on this list.  Santa has been seen throughout the building and is taking care of his shopping as possible!

Baking will always be a part of our holiday fun.
Cookies are appreciated across all ages.
We have created a snappy ginger recipe that started with Martha and became quite delectable with a few sugary changes!

That said... occasionally we may need a little help from our friends!
Introducing our dear friend Jeanne Sledd and her wonderful spice cookies!  Jeanne's cookies just launched through Vermont Country Store and are available in Lexington exclusively at Mulberry & Lime!
Please come in and sample these wonderful cookies!
We can gift wrap with a Le Jacquard French tea towel for the perfect holiday gift.
Teachers, Hostess and Host, Mom, Dad, Grand and more!

Last Hurrah!

As we transition into fall and say good bye to the last summer blooms, dahlias make a great show!
I so appreciated receiving these blooms from our friends in Nicholas County.  A fresh cut, quick dip and flower preservative will help insure a beautiful arrangement for reception through dinner parties.
Make sure to watch weather forecasts and bring the last of the hardy tropicals and herbs inside.

all in a day!

I enjoyed meeting with artist Georgia Henkel this morning.  We had a coffee, discussed her work and closing reception for her show next week.  Of our featured artists,Georgia's show has generated the most talk in the shop.  Watching the responses and joining in discussions keep things lively at Mulberry & Lime.  If you have the opportunity, please come in and see the show.
Fall Planting indoors and out!
We received our fall delivery of dutch bulbs!  Amaryllis and paperwhites ready for indoor forcing.  This year we decided to go with all top size bulbs, 40-42cm, this number corresponds with the circumference of the bulb.  By paying a little more for the bulb we can expect these beauties to produce 3-4 stalks with four flowers each.  Bloom time can stretch all the way to spring when we can enjoy blooms in the garden.
When choosing your bulbs, make sure bulb is firm. If you see a flower bud on the bulb, you are that much closer to enjoying the bloom.  I prefer planting my bulbs in soil, I think they have a better foundation for heavy blooms and I love dressing the pot with moss from the garden.
Make sure you water more often once bulb is in flower and enjoy for weeks on end!
Look for White Christmas, Vera and Red Lion at Mulberry & Lime.  We can pot up, your container or ours, or DIY.  Great for all our winter holidays!
Cottimaryanne
I had to share this special pair of pillowcases that we received.  The Cotti family (mother's name, Maryanne)of Florence, Italy have an incredible custom house for linens.
This set we designed with our customer.  The base fabric is a soft cotton sateen, 400TC, who's counting, the Italians don't, it is all in the hand.  The 5 stitch embroidery we selected from an Italian thread card with over 100 different colors.  Pale rose sateen with deep rose, ivory and coppery beige, Bellissimo!

What's not to love?  All will taste best from this table.
